The company was founded in 1991 as a distributor of book products, in 1993 it started its own publishing activity. By the mid-1990s, the publishing house "Eksmo" took a leading position in the Russian book market.
According to the Russian book chamber, the publishing house "Eksmo" is the leader in the circulation of books produced in the markets of fiction, entertainment, applied and children's literature. The share of "Eksmo" in the book market is 25%.
Every year the publishing house "Eksmo" produces about 80 million books. The author's portfolio of the publishing house includes about 8, 000 names.
In 2005 the publishing house "Eksmo" introduced a divisional structure. Divisions — editorial offices are essentially specialized publishing houses that have all the necessary powers and control of the entire process of creating books. At the moment the publishing house consists of three editorial offices:
- Fiction - the largest division of the publishing house produces fiction: modern prose, thrilling literature, fiction.
- Non-fiction literature - the editorial Board of popular science and applied literature publishes travel guides and cookbooks, books on education, health, gardening, business and self-development, popular all over the world.
- Children's and adolescent literature - a team of experts engaged in production of literature for children: from educational publications for parents to the modern literature of Young Adult division.
