Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography (MIIGAiK) was founded by order of Empress Catherine II the Great at the Land Survey Office in Moscow as the Surveying School. The University is the center of Higher Geodesic Education in Russia and the largest educational institution in Europe. Over the 240 years of its existence, the university has trained more than 100 thousand engineers and is successfully continuing the training of surveyors, cartographers, specialists in the field of aerial photography, land management and cadastre, architects.
MIIGAiK is the only civilian university in Russia providing training for reserve officers in the military registration specialties of the Topographic Service of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, it has a modern educational and laboratory base equipped with the necessary equipment and weapons.
Currently, the University is a large educational, scientific and industrial complex, which includes six full-time faculties, the faculty of distance learning, the faculty for advanced training of university teachers and retraining of specialists, postgraduate and doctoral programs, specialized educational laboratories in various fields of geodesy, cartography and remote sensing.
MIIGAiK takes 6th place in terms of the quality of education in Moscow.
